Stirnimann in Austria.
Stirnimann GmbH is a subsidiary of Stirnimann AG which is based in Switzerland. The company entered the Austrian market in 2013 and a limited company bearing the Stirnimann name was established in 2014. Since 1st January 2015 we have been the general representative of the leading global crane brand POTAIN, whose innovative cranes are now available exclusively from Stirnimann right across Austria.
The close cooperation with our parent company in Switzerland and a stable international network are key factors. They enable us to offer flexibility and certainty on a fast-changing market. For example, in addition to our own rental fleet of around 70 tower cranes we can offer access to our Swiss parent’s pool of almost 400 cranes. This means that we are perfectly prepared for every eventuality.
A nationwide presence
In addition to our company headquarters in Trumau to the south of Vienna and a facility in Taxenbach near Zell am See we have a depot in Munderfing near Salzburg and a partnership with Kaiser Fahrzeugtechnik in Nenzing in Vorarlberg. On top of this our eight technicians and their fully equipped service vehicles are on call right across Austria, ready to support our customers on the ground.
The Swiss parent company

Anyone evaluating construction cranes in Austria cannot avoid the Stirnimann company.
The company counts well-known companies from the construction industry, the transport sector, industry and the public sector among its customers. Now Stirnimann GmbH in Austria presents the new Potain IGOT99 fast erecting crane, which can convince with an improved outreach and load capacity with a compact footprint, thus filling the gap between the IGOT85A and IGOT130.
The advantages of the Potain IGOT99 at a glance:
telescopic fast erecting crane
lifting capacity of 6 t and an outreach of 48 m,
and a hook height of 38.5 m (with horizontal boom position).
Compact transport dimensions,
a manageable footprint and an innovative unfolding method save space on the way to the construction site and when setting up the crane in confined spaces.
The technical aspects:
With a boom length of 45 m, lifting loads of up to 1.5 to is possible, and an impressive 1.2 to in a configuration with the full 48-m jib. These loads can be realized at reduced speeds without an electronic auxiliary load curve. It achieves its hook height of 38.5 m with the boom horizontal, and even 56.5 m with the 30° boom pitch.
For maximum versatility on the job site, the Igo T99 can work with six different boom lengths:
- 31,7 m
- 32 m (with boom folded)
- 33,8 m
- 40 m
- 45 m
- 48 m
The crane can be equipped with three additional mast elements, making seven working heights of 20.5 - 38.5 m possible. One mast element is 6 m long and can be climbed in within about 30 minutes, which is unique on the market.
Compactness and simplicity:
Transport to the construction site is almost child's play thanks to the compactness of the Igo T99. Equipped with axles designed for a maximum speed of 80 km/h, its overall transport length is just 15.65 m and its height is 4 m.
Its footprint measures just 4.5 x 4.5 m when erected, and a new deployment mechanism allows the crane to be erected in confined spaces in close proximity to buildings. A 480 V/60 Hz and a 400 V/50 Hz power supply are provided to drive the crane.
The existing restrictions on travel in Europe have meant that all training dates for fitters and service technicians in recent months have been cancelled. Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to estimate when normal operations can be resumed in terms of training.
Therefore, Stirnimann Austria has been looking for a suitable solution in order to be able to teach its customers and sales partners the latest POTAIN technology on site.
Stirnimann invested in a modern video conferencing system at the Trumau location, which makes it possible to impart the required knowledge "live" directly by the training managers of the manufacturer POTAIN.
This means that the theoretical part of the training can be conveyed interactively on site without having to travel across Europe. This minimizes costs, time and also the risk!
In the currently offered "CCS1 - Course" the newest POTAIN CCS - technology is imparted. The participants are introduced to the special features of this new technology. Among other things, the settings of the safety devices are taught, as well as the basic knowledge for troubleshooting and also the correct and safe handling of the integrated work area limitation is trained in the long term.
The practical exercises can be carried out on the brand-new POTAIN topless crane MDT 139, which was specially assembled for this purpose at the Stirnimann Trumau storage yard.
During the entire course in theory and practice, our customers are accompanied by the factory-trained employees of Stirnimann. This ensures maximum knowledge transfer at all times.
Once again STIRNIMANN Austria impressively proves that we have a suitable solution for every challenge.

Project: Reconstruction and expansion of the Westgipfelhütte at an altitude of 2,096 m in the Saalbach Hinterglemm ski region.
Client: Schwaiger Family
Builder: Bauunternehmung Schmuck GmbH, 5093 Weißbach
Duration: Spring to autumn 2017
The top floor of the Westgipfelhütte should be upgraded in order to create new staff accommodation.
In selecting a lifting device the builders Schmuck were convinced by the performance data of a brand-new POTAIN IGO T 70 A fast-erecting crane. The decisive factors were not only the high loading capacity of 1,450 kg for a jib length of 40 m but, in particular, the minimal transport dimensions (transport length of just below 15 m) and the very large ground clearance of over 40 cm. It was only thanks to these dimensions that it was possible to transport the crane to the mountain top hut.
The company STIRNIMANN was commissioned to provide the crane for the project and to demonstrate the experience of our crane erectors in such situations.
The IGO T 70 A fast-erecting crane was transported to the summit along ten kilometres of an extremely narrow and winding alpine access road by Haider Transporte + Voithofer John in a convoy pulled by a 390 hp Fendt 939 Vario tractor.
The crane axle was an 80 km/h fast running axle completely redesigned by the companies Berghammer & Stirnimann. This axle can be deployed both as a semi-trailer and a trailer. The project also required that the rear axle had to be steerable in order to be able to deal with the sharp curves.
POTAIN HUP 32-27 in action for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang -
In July 2017, we were contacted by the company Loidl GmbH (www.hochsitz.at), with the request of crane application solutions for the realization of lifting work on international projects.
It was about building the "Nation Village" for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang - South Korea.
The task was demanding in many ways. On the one hand, a concept for transport by sea freight, on-site assembly and worldwide service availability was to be created within a few days, and secondly, the necessary crane had to be available promptly.
With our latest product from POTAIN (by Manitowoc), the HUP 32-27, all lifting requirements and mobility requirements of the customer were met.
Within 24 hours of the first contact, a concept for the transport by sea freight including the necessary crane axle, for the manipulation of the crane on the site and the individual construction sites in Pyeongchang was created.
The concept convinced the company Loidl GmbH under the leadership of the general director Bernd Loidl. So 7 days after the first contact of the POTAIN HUP 32-27 at the company headquarters of the company Stirnimann in Trumau, seaworthy was loaded in open top container and transported away.
This narrow time window could only be met thanks to the ingenious technology of the POTAIN cranes. No adaptation work was necessary for the container transport. POTAIN already fulfills these requirements as standard and produces the HUP series precisely fitting for container transport.
Our highly trained assembly staff was also used during the initial assembly and training in Pyeongchang. After just a few days of enrollment, the journey home could be started back to Austria.
POTAIN (by Manitowoc) and the company Stirnimann GmbH guarantee a comprehensive service and spare parts availability.
We are pleased to contribute our products and services to the successful realization of the Nation Village in Pyeongchang.
Thanks again to Director-General Bernd Loidl and his trusted team.
